About Billy

Why this is the work I chose, and what to expect from a coaching or consulting experience with me.

Where it started

The decision came early.

Billy, founder of Empirica

In middle school, I watched a close friend develop panic attacks severe enough that she had to be homeschooled. I saw first-hand how this derailed her life and our friendship.

At the time, there were few resources available and besides being understanding, I was unable to help.

Since then, I have been driven to find ways to improve people's lives through greater well-being, better career experiences, and more effective organizations.

My work helps both organizations and employees achieve their goals and meet their potential.

Why organizations

The ripple does not stop with Leadership.

It reaches everyone

When a company invests in developing its people, the effect reaches every employee, not just the leaders being trained. They can provide feedback to make the training even better.

It reaches the work

Because everyone is involved, it shows up in the quality of every aspects of the products and services that company provides.

It compounds

Capability built well does not expire. It compounds over time and can be taught to others.

What you can expect

Custom Solutions

No one-size-fits-all interventions.

A packaged solution is easy to sell and rarely fits. I do it differently.

Research-backed approaches to both consulting and coaching, delivered as something you can actually understand, put into practice, and adapt as your circumstances change.

Rapport comes first

Nothing useful happens without trust. Every engagement starts by building a genuine working relationship because the honest information I need to be helpful only surfaces once people understand who I am and what I bring to the table.

Information before recommendations

I gather before I design. Solving problems I do not understand will lead to ineffective programs and processes. If consulting is done well, organizations have programs that address symptoms instead of causes.

Feedback throughout, not just at the end

A post-engagement survey is too late to change anything. I ask for feedback while the work is still in motion, so the approach can be corrected while correcting it still matters.

Strategic or in the details

Some moments call for a high-level view of the system; others call for sitting down in the specifics with you. I can work at either altitude, and I try to communicate as authentically as I ask my clients to.
